Facilities at the Stevenson House

The Entrance

The Entrance to the Stevenson House is designed to make guests feel welcome, bidding them inside this delightful home. On the Beaufort chest sits a statue of the famous writer himself and the Macfie family clock chimes the hours away.

The Hall

The Hall links the two rooms via the original stone staircase with cupola on top, letting in sunlight and allowing views of the clouds as they drift by. As you climb the stairs, there is a unique collection of swords ready to fire anyone’s imagination. Unusually, the Stevenson House still has the original butler’s tray on the first floor, which today unfortunately has more decorative than practical use!

The Dining Room

The Dining Room can be used for meals from 2 to 34 persons sitting down or for fork buffets up to a capacity of 70 guests. It can also be used as a boardroom for a meeting that is to be held in private or as an exhibition space for interior designers, craft shows, fashion sales, etc.

The Drawing Room

The Drawing Room is usually used for pre-dinner drinks and after the meal for coffee and liqueurs. Equipped with a piano it offers the space to hold a small recital, but equally it has already been used to screen a film that was shot in the house. The capacity for receptions is about 80 guests. Furnished entirely with antiques, it offers beautiful surroundings for a reception and during the cold months, there is always a welcoming fire going in the original fireplace. The 4.5m ceiling height adds to the dramatic setting.

The Stevenson Bathroom

The Stevenson Bathroom forms part of the public rooms on the first floor and can also be viewed during your visit to the Stevenson House. Sized like a modern family room, it still has the original enamel bath as installed by Thomas Stevenson with antique shower overhead. From there one has a beautiful view into the garden of the house, filled with bay trees, a magic rowan tree and a flowering cherrytree (in spring..). One can also see towards the North with Fife beckoning from across the Forth. More impressions…
